About This Site

What is the blog all about?

It’s a place for me to share my progress with others on the various web applications that I’m building.

I will also use this blog to share my insights on the Internet, especially where it has failed me and where those failures seem to be getting worse and most importantly what should be improved.

I plan on writing at least once every week or two right now, and probably just a tad bit more.

Who’s responsible for this blog?

My name is Marcellus Miles (Marc) and wow where do I begin. I’ve been a geek since the day my Mom bought the family a Commodore 64. However, I’ll save you some time and fast forward to 1997 as that is when I created my first web site. I had no idea that first web site would lead to a small sole proprietorship a year or so later with more requests than I could handle. I then either made the best decision in my life or the worst. I gave up on the business and took a full time job with a now defunct company Rare Medium in 1999.

To make a long story short, since then I’ve developed numerous web sitesĀ  from big corporate web presences, corporate Intranets, health care taxonomies with a relational framework of sites and on to mini personal sites to sites for non-profit organizations.

It’s been a blast, and, I know now that I want to go back to making income based on the value I add vs. making income from how many hours I contribute. This blog will be the home for these efforts while I work towards this goal.

My personal interests are first and foremost being a great dad to my two kids and a great husband to my wife. Aside from that I love good science fiction, games (on the PC or table top), any music (last.fm and pandora.com profiles) that is electronic as well as great acoustic guitar with or without great vocals. And last but not least is the Internet and specifically writing code and thinking of business that can make money online. This year however I’m finally going to implement these ideas instead of just thinking about them [friends and family jumping for joy].

My academic interests are so damm broad that it took me 10 years to get my AAS degree. I love cosmology, finance, CG art, computer science, psychology and philosophy.

My professional interests are everything from the database on up to Ajax in the web browser for 11 years now. While the last 7 years have been focused on implementing projects with Microsoft technologies I’m personally shifting away from that and into LAMP and cloud computing. I have implemented web sites and underlying frameworks for multiple websites throughout the entire software development life-cycle and have worn every hat in the process. However, graphic design and writing would be my weak-points.
